First SMH Awareness Stroll Huge Success

Walkers who participated in the first ever SMH Awareness Stroll for breast cancer return from their walk through downtown Sallisaw. The event was held on Saturday, Oct. 4, and gave people the opportunity to raise awareness for this devastating disease. Among the walkers were survivors, fighters, and supporters of finding a cure. The walkers then stayed for a luncheon during which they were able to hear from Sheila Taber, DO, and Jackie McKenzie, ARRT, both of Diagnostic Imaging Associates, and Jennifer Scoufos, DO, of The Family Clinic and SMH Medical Staff and Hospitalists. The speakers touched on the importance of the annual mammogram screening and local healthcare resources. "Over 70 people attended our event," said Beth Fair, director of medical imaging. "It meant so much to the hospital to help raise awareness about breast cancer and show support for those in our community who are currently fighting the disease, or are a survivor."
